Running Meta Ads for a school or college sounds simple, right?
Pick an audience. Write some copy. Add a photo of your campus. Set a budget. Wait for enquiries to roll in.
But in reality? Most education ad campaigns are quietly bleeding money — often for weeks — before anyone realises the setup is fundamentally broken.
Here are the five most common mistakes we see educational institutions make on Meta Ads, and exactly how to fix each one.
“Most education ad campaigns bleed money for weeks before anyone realises the fundamental setup is broken.”
Mistake #1 — Using the Wrong Campaign Objective
This is the single most expensive mistake we see — and it’s incredibly common.

Engagment and Awareness campaigns are designed to show your ad to as many people as possible. Meta’s algorithm will happily spend your entire budget delivering impressions to people who will never enquire.
The Fix
Switch to the right objective:
- Use “Leads” to capture enquiry forms directly on Meta
- Use “Messages” to drive WhatsApp conversations
- Use “Conversions” if you have a strong landing page
These objectives tell Meta’s algorithm to find people most likely to take action — not just scroll past your ad.
Mistake #2 — Running Ads Without a Meta Pixel
If Meta doesn’t know what a “success” looks like for your campaign, it simply cannot optimise for it

.
Running ads without a properly installed Meta Pixel is like driving without a speedometer. You’re moving — but you have no idea how fast, or in what direction.
The Fix
- Install the Meta Pixel on your website via Google Tag Manager
- Set up custom conversion events for:
- Form submissions
- WhatsApp button clicks
- Thank-you page views
This data is what allows Meta to find more people just like your best leads — over time, automatically.
Mistake #3 — Targeting Too Broadly or Too Narrowly
We see both extremes — and both hurt your results.

Some institutions target an entire city of 12 million people with one campaign. Others over-restrict to such a tiny audience (e.g. age 28–32, female, postgraduate, interested in CBSE) that the campaign never exits the learning phase.
The Fix
For Schools:
- Start with location targeting — a 5 to 8 km radius from your campus
- Use broad demographic targeting — parents aged 28–45
- Let the Pixel and conversion data teach the algorithm over time
For Colleges:
- Begin with geographic + interest targeting
- Move to Lookalike Audiences once you have 100+ leads in your system

Mistake #4 — Running the Same Ad Forever

A single ad running to the same audience for six weeks will exhaust itself.
Frequency rises. The same person sees the same ad seven times. Ad fatigue sets in. And your cost per lead starts to climb.
We regularly inherit campaigns where the same two creatives have been running unchanged for months.
The Fix
- Test a minimum of 3–4 creatives per campaign
- Rotate new creative every 10–14 days during active season
- A/B test these combinations:
- Video vs. static image
- Feature-led copy vs. outcome-led copy
- Direct CTA vs. curiosity headline
Let the data decide — not instinct.
Mistake #5 — Sending Ad Traffic to Your Homepage

Your homepage is designed to give visitors a broad overview of your institution.
It is not designed to convert a parent who just clicked an ad about nursery admissions.
When ad traffic lands on a homepage, they face 12 navigation links, 3 pop-ups, and a banner about your Annual Day. They leave.
The Fix
Build dedicated landing pages for each campaign.
A nursery admission landing page should have:
- ✅ One clear, specific headline
- ✅ 3–5 key reasons to consider your school
- ✅ A short enquiry form or WhatsApp button
- ✅ Nothing else competing for attention
Conversion rates on purpose-built landing pages are typically 2–4x higher than homepages.
Quick Checklist Before You Launch Your Next Campaign
Run through this before hitting “Publish” on your next Meta Ads campaign:
- ☑️ Campaign objective set to Leads, Messages, or Conversions
- ☑️ Meta Pixel installed and conversion events firing correctly
- ☑️ Audience targeting checked — neither too broad nor too narrow
- ☑️ Minimum 3 creative variants ready to test
- ☑️ Dedicated landing page built for this campaign
Get all five right, and your cost per enquiry will drop significantly.
We’ve seen institutions cut their cost per lead by 40–60% — just by fixing these fundamentals.
